The Riverjet adventure will introduce you to a slice of New Zealand scenery only a select few have ever seen. Our tours take you through great pine forests and open farmlands that line the river bank along with some of New Zealand’s most beautiful, unspoilt Native bush. The sleek black boat takes you through the magnificent Tutukau Gorge where canyon walls rise 50 dramatic metres above the magnificent Waikato River.
This is the only Riverjet in New Zealand that incorporates a geothermal wonderland experience. As you travel down to the hidden valley of Orakei Korako. This enchanting natural geothermal park that has fabulous walks, around steaming cliffs, amazing hot pools and the awesome Aladdin’s cave.
RIVERJET “THE SQUEEZE”
Itinerary – The group do the same trip on the boats but then carry on past Orakei Korako where we leave the boat and start to walk up a thermal hot water stream, around 20 to 38 degrees
Everyone will be fitted with water boats to walk in as the stream is shingle based. After a short walk from the boats we enter “The Squeeze” this is where the water rushes thru the rock wall and is only about 12 – 14 inches wide and about knee to waist deep, so you have to turn side ways to push thru, this carries on for about 40 meters where it breaks out into the stream and is around knee deep, walking along here for 200 meters where at the top is a waterfall and hot pool above where you can enjoy a hot swim, soak, 10 minutes later turn around and head back thru “THE SQUEEZE” All this is in the NZ native bush with ferns, pungas the ultimate setting.

Cultural experience
Experience the warmth of our people during an evening of ceremonial rituals, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting!
Share in the Powhiri; our ancient ceremony of welcome before you are invited into our Pre-European Maori village nestled within the native Tawa forest. Enter our living village, as it comes alive with the sights, sounds and activity of days gone by. Witness the earth being scraped carefully away from the hangi pit by your selected Chiefs, to reveal baskets laden with your sumptuous, mouth watering feast. At the heart of the Village, enter our ancestral Meeting House, and relax as our family entertain you with a powerful Cultural performance. Dine on the traditional hangi buffet feast, followed by our New Zealand dessert. The evening draws to an end with the Poroporoaki – the official closing ceremony as we farewell our visitors.
HangiChiefs are appointed in the beginning of the evening. They are each given a spade, and together with assistance from your guides they dig away the dirt, pull back the hessian sacks and reveal the sumptuous hangi meal that has been cooking for more than 3 hours already on the hot stones beneath the ground!
The hangi baskets, laden with piping hot chicken and lamb, kumara, potatoes, carrots and delicious stuffing, are pulled from the pit. Your hosts deliver an interactive commentary on how the meal was prepared and cooked, the origin of the hangi and provide a brief history of how Maori hangis were cooked in ancient times. And for those interested in putting a hangi down in their very own backyard when they get home, we also provide a few handy tips.
Let “Arista of Rotorua” help you to book this amazing show...

With all that hydrogen sulphide, everybody says you smell Rotorua before you see it but that’s part of this great city’s charm. After all, it’s the cultural heart of New Zealand. The Lone Star restaurant is thrilled to be regarded as one of the ‘must see’ attractions here- we are housed in a building which encompasses a blend of traditional Maori culture and contemporary New Zealand design synonymous with Rotorua.
Owners Andy and Prue Allan invite you to see for yourself and enjoy an evening with them. Although if Andy is not there, it could be because he is somewhere indulging his passion for the great outdoors, preying upon some unsuspecting wild pig or stag. The Lone Star Rotorua restaurant comfortably hosts 140 guests, and in addition can cater for a further 45 people in our function Room – it’s available any time for whatever occasion. Simply call us, tell us what you need and we’ll take care of the rest.
